Tribes of aboriginals of Central America occupied the territory of the modern Mexican United States to the 16th century - the conquest time by the Spanish conquistadors. The Maya, the Toltec and the Aztec had a highly developed civilisation and culture not yielding to the ancient civilisations of Egypt and Greece.
Almost all of Mexico lies in the North American Plate, with small parts of the Baja California peninsula on the Pacific and Cocos Plates. Mexico is crossed from north to south by two mountain ranges known as Sierra Madre Oriental and Sierra Madre Occidental. From east to west at the center, the country is crossed by the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt also known as the Sierra Nevada. A fourth mountain range, the Sierra Madre del Sur, runs from Michoacán to Oaxaca. The most well-known volcanoes are Popocatépetl (5 462 m) and Orizaba (5700 m).
The Tropic of Cancer effectively divides the country into temperate and tropical zones. There are semi-deserts and deserts, damp tropical and coniferous woods. The National parks are of the great interest for fans of the nature and a quiet rest.
Mexico offers various kinds of tourism - specialised and common throughout the year - mountaineering, pedestrian tourism lasting many days along a plain, safari on jeeps, various excursions to historical places of the ancient civilisations, visit to numerous active and extinct volcanoes and, of course, beaches of the Pacific coast where you can sunbathe, swim or be engaged in aquatics.
After arrival to Mexico (as a rule to the international airport of Mexico City) it is possible to examine first of all the National park Iztaccíhuatl-Popocatépetl named by names of two active volcanoes located there. Volcanoes belong to the so-called Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt. Literally it is possible to name Mexico the country of volcanoes. What can be more exotic than a visit with an excursion to active volcano top at the time it has a rest?
Excursions offered by the Mexican travelling agency in many hotels can be both group and individual – with own guide, a driver, a guide, an instructor. It is possible to cross on foot or by car the whole country, to examine world-famous pyramids of Maya and Aztec, to be engaged in mountaineering in the Mexican mountains. Automobile trips on off-road cars cover interesting places with unique landscapes: Northern California with its beaches up to the settlement Los-Kabos, a desert with a constantly changing relief, mountain passes and valleys.
