The Burj Al Arab (Tower of the Arabs) is a luxury hotel located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The Burj Al Arab stands on an artificial island 280 m (920 ft) out from Jumeirah beach, and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge. It is an iconic structure, designed to symbolize Dubai's urban transformation and to mimic the sail of a boat. At 321 m (1,050 ft), it is the second tallest building in the world used exclusively as a hotel. The Rose Tower, opened in April, 2008, also in Dubai, topped Burj Al Arab's height at 333 m (1,090 ft), becoming the world's tallest hotel.
The hotel was under construction 5 years and was opened in December, 1st, 1999. It was built to resemble the sail of a dhow, a type of Arabian vessel.
The hotel hall consists of two floors. On the ground floor the registration of visitors is made, on the second floor shops and cafe, and also a corridor leading to high-speed lifts are located. In the corridor hall, on a floor there is a unique mosaic. Near the escalators lifting to the second floor aquariums are built into a wall, and between them there is a stepped squirting fountain with illumination.
The Burj Al Arab is one of the most expensive hotels in the world. The price for a night varies from 1000 to 15 000 dollars, and the price for per night in Royal Suite — nearby 28 000. Despite its size, the Burj Al Arab holds only 28 double-storey floors which accommodate 202 bedroom suites. The smallest suite occupies an area of 169 m2 (1,820 sq ft), the largest covers 780 m2 (8,400 sq ft).
On each floor for convenience there is a reception which personnel speaks several foreign languages. All hotel suites are equipped in the latest thing of technics and design. Interiors are executed in an unique exclusive style. In an interior «the Burj Al Arab» has been used about 8000 square metres of 22-carat gold leaf. In all suites there are huge windows with a tremendous view to the sea, remote control by technics.
The hotel own well-appointed beach is in 280 m from the hotel. Visitors are delivered to it on electromobiles. Umbrellas, chaise longues, mattresses and towels are given free of charge.
In the hotel there are 4 smart restaurants and bars. One of its restaurants, Al Muntaha ("Highest" or "Ultimate"), is located 200 metres (660 ft) above the Persian Gulf, offering a view of Dubai. It is accessed by a panoramic elevator.
Another restaurant, the Al Mahara ("The Oyster"), which is accessed via a simulated submarine voyage, features a large seawater aquarium, holding roughly 990,000 litres (35,000 cu ft) of water. The tank, made of acrylic glass in order to withstand the water pressure, is about 18 centimetres (7.1 in) thick. The restaurant was also voted among the top ten best restaurants of the world by Condé Nast Traveler.
